TP-Board Update History
12/15/87 - Version 2.0
Increased the number of messages allowed in the FIDO-NET and
EchoMail areas to 1024.
Increased the maximum number of EchoMail areas to 62. Also
included a utility to convert the old 1.0 records to
the 2.0 format.
Added a Net and Node lookup feature. If the user doesn't
enter a valid address, the message will not be accepted.
Added cost accounting. It's up to the Sysop to correctly set
up the message costs in the Node List.
Many small changes to make the message area functions as
similar as possible between the FidoNet and TP-Board
message areas.
12/01/87 - Version 1.1 (Maintenance release)
Added a renumbering program. When run, ALL Fido areas are
renumbered, the user record counters are updated, and
all reply threads are cleared. When CONFMAIL is run in
the MAINT mode, the reply threads will be rebuilt. The
renumbering program will also release any vacant Echo
Mail slots for subsequent use by SETUP.
When replying to a message in the Fido areas, the subject
string is now automatically entered. This assists
CONFMAIL in creating reply threads.
Fixed a bug where user was asked 'DELETE this message' after
having replyed to a message, and the next message was
addressed either TO or FROM him.
Fixed a bug where the message just entered was deleted when
asked if you wanted to delete the message that you just
replied to.
Fixed a bug related to DSZ's apparent failure to properly
reinitilize the UART after an upload. This only occured
occasionally.
Fixed a bug in SETUP that could cause the total loss of a
message base if a non-numeric character was used in
place of a number in the delete function.
Fixed numerous small bugs.
11/20/87 - Version 1.0 TP-Board's initial release.
===================================================================
Credits and History of TP-Board prior to release of Version 1.0
===================================================================
TP-Board is based on Les Archambault's Pascal Integrated
Communications System (PICS), Copyright 1986, 1987. More than 90%
of the PICS code is used unaltered in TP-Board. Even the majority
of the documentation for TP-Board is nothing more than an edited
and re-formatted version of the PICS documentation.
I am not attempting to take credit for the great work that
Les did in creating PICS, nor am I trying to compete with PICS. I
have released this package due to the large number of requests
that I've had for copies of the highly modified version of PICS
that I was running on my BBS.
After speaking to Les, and discussing the problems involved
for him in having altered versions of PICS in distribution, it
was decided that it was best for me to release the program using
a new name. That would avoid any possible problems for him.
To give you an idea as to the extent of the modifications
that I've made, what follows is a list of some of the changes
to PICS. These changes are all incorporated in this version of
TP-Board.
Can now be linked into FidoNet, and supports EchoMail.
The ability to run under SEAdog (related to above).
The addition of two new protocols, Zmodem and Imodem.
Support for ANSI graphics in the system's menus.
The addition of Darrell Pittman's 'Quotes' modification.
The ability to 'TYPE' ARC member files.
The ability to 'Shell' to DOS.
Support for COM3 and COM4, at up to 9600 baud.
Two new user record fields. Default protocol and upload
to download ratio.
The ability for the user to update his phone number.
Sysop's logins now don't update the caller number.
Fully buffered transmit.
Support of the CTS line for the newer modems.
Changed the handling of the 'BADNAMES.LST'
Fixed problems in the caller number getting trashed.
Fixed some problems in the Ymodem routines.
Added 'Windows' to the file transfer routines.
Complete 'Newin' descriptions also shown from the 'LOGIN'
file section.
Is now 'DesqView aware'.
The ability to change all defaults, without re-compiling.
Even with all those changes, TP-Board is still not much more
than a highly modified version of PICS. It may change over the
next several months into a package with it's own identity, but
for now, it's still a PICS workalike, and 99% of the credit for a
great BBS package goes to Les Archambault.
Additional thanks to:
Philip R. Burns - for his PIBASYNC and PIBMDOS routines.
Jim LeMay - for his WINDOW34 and QWIK30 video routines.
Bela Lubkin - for the code used in the Shell to DOS.
Chuck Forsberg - for his development of the ZMODEM protocol.
Darrell Pittman - for his Quotes package.
NOTE:
I would like to get an idea as to the practicality of
continuing my efforts with TP-Board. It's taken me the better
part of 6 months to get it to where it is, and if no one is
interested in it, I don't see much use in continuing with it.
To try and get a feel for it's acceptance, I've included a
registration form on the next page. Please fill it in, and mail
it to me. If enough people are running TP-Board, I will continue
to expand it's capabilities. If not, I'll just work on my own
version, and not make any new releases.
If you want to reach me via FidoNet mail, my network address
is 1:381/23. SEAdog is running 24 hours per day, so I can accept
crash mail at any time. As soon as I get more familiar with the
ins and outs of FidoNet, I will have all of the TP-Board files
and updates available by SEAdog file requests.
